Valerie feit, ed.d.
Co-Director of counseling and guidance
k-12 enrichment coordinator
Since 2000, I have worked with Rye Neck administrators, teachers, parents and students to build and coordinate interest-based opportunities inside and outside of school that help students find and develop their strengths and talents. I came to Rye Neck with a background as a professional dancer (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater among other companies) and as the director of an arts conservatory. My past experiences in both capacities taught me that with passion, commitment and a strong work ethic, young people can realize their dreams.
My father taught me to love learning and to appreciate beauty. My mother taught me that finding a passion and working to develop the skills to express that passion at an advanced level are among life's greatest gifts. Along the way, I had many wonderful teachers who shared their knowledge and encouraged me to overcome the challenges that inevitably come with an educational journey. They also helped me to understand the satisfactions of accomplishment. I have stood on the shoulders of these valuable people and now it is my privelege to pay my debt to them forward and share my energy and love of learning with Rye Neck's students.
I have a Master's Degree in Counseling and Guidance with a specialization in Gifted and Talented Education and a doctorate in Leadership, Management and Policy with specializations in school design and self-regulated learning from Seton Hall University. In my dual role as C0-Director of Counseling and Guidance and K12 Enrichment Coordinator, I have the opportunity to apply a k-16 perspective to building programs at Rye Neck and contributing to each student's growth from Kindergarten to commencement.
In my private life, I actively pursue wilderness hiking, tap dancing, jogging, cooking and writing short stories.
